 Harvard Law School 

On February 25-27, 2011 Harvard law school will host the eighth annual National Animal Law Competitions. The National Animal Law Competitions are an inter-law school competition comprised of three separate competitions: (1) Legislative Drafting & Lobbying Competition; (2) Closing Argument Competition; and (3) Appellate Moot Court Competition.  New York University Law School 

On October 20, 2010 the New York University Student Animal Legal Defense Fund will hosted a introductory lecture on animal law.  Professor David J. Wolfson provided "an overview of the laws governing the treatment of animals in the United States."  Topics covered included the historical and philosophical treatment of animals, the ramifications of classifying animals as “property,” current animal protection laws, recent political campaigns to reform animal protection laws, and “standing” and the problems of litigating on behalf of animals. 

 University of Pennsylvania Law School 

On October 6, 2010 the University of Pennsylvania Animal Law Project hosted a presentation by Michael Budkie, Executive Director of Stop Animal Exploitation Now entitled "Life in the Lab: The Hidden Truth About Animal Experiments."

 Harvard Law School: The Future of Animal Law Conference

On April 9-11, 2010 Harvard Law School and the Animal Legal Defense Fund presented a conference entitled "The Future of Animal Law Conference."  The conference was intended for attorneys, law students, professors and activists and explored issues related to animal law and animal activism.  For more information, click here.
 

Arizona State University Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law

On April 7, 2010 the Arizona State University Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law Student Animal Legal Defense Fund held an event entitled "The Many Species of Animal Law."  Bruce Wagman, chief outside litigation counsel for the Animal Legal Defense Fund and author of a casebook on animal law, discussed aspects of animal law and cases he has handled.

Massachusetts School of Law
 

On April 3, 2010 the Massachusetts School of Law held its fourth annual Animal Rights Day.  Animal law issues including animal intelligence and pet trusts were addressed by experts in the field.  


New York University Law School

On April 2, 2010 the New York University Student Animal Legal Defense Fund is hosting a workshop that will explore the crossroads between First Amendment Law and Animal Law. The event is free and open to the public.

Lewis and Clark Law School
 

On October 16-18, 2009 the Center for Animal Law Studies at Lewis & Clark, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, and the Lewis & Clark Law School Student Animal Legal Defense Fund hosted an animal law conference entitled, Animal Law: The Links. The conference explored animal law and its link to other areas of the law and professional disciplines, philosophies, and social movements. Click here for more information. 

New York University Law School 

On October 7, 2009 David Wolfson presented a workshop entitled "What is Animal Law?" at the New York University Law School. David Wolfson is an attorney with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP and an adjunct Professor of Animal Law at Columbia University School of Law and New York University School of Law.

On October 6, 2009 PETA's Alka Chandna held a discussion discussing the ethics of animal testing at New York University.  The event was sponsored by Cruelty-Free NYU and the NYU Law SALDF. George Washington University Law School Animal Cruelty/Animal Fighting Training Conference 

On September 24 and 25, 2009 the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys, in partnership with the Animal Welfare Institute, hosted an Animal Cruelty/Animal Fighting Training Conference for prosecutors and law enforcement. The conference was at the George Washington University Law School and CLE credit was available.

Steve Best, Gary Francione to Debate Animal Rights
 

On September 18, 2009 Dr. Steven Best an Associate Professor of Humanities and Philosophy at the University of Texas, El Paso participated in a debate with Prof. Gary L. Francione a Distinguished Professor of Law and Nicholas deB. Katzenbach Scholar of Law & Philosophy at Rutgers School of Law-Newark. The debate focused on the differences between their respective animal rights ideologies which oppose most noticeably by each's view on violence and pacifism in the animal rights movement. Lewis & Clark Law School Symposium  on the Science, Ethics, and Law of Animal Testing 

On Saturday, September 12, 2009 the Lewis & Clark Law School held a daylong symposium titled "The Science, Ethics, and Law of Animal Testing in the 21st Century - Are We on the Verge of a Paradigm Shift?" The event was free to the public (registration required). The panelists presented strategies for improving scientific outcomes using alternatives to animal testing outlined in the National Academy of Science's (NAS) National Research Council (NRC) Report on Toxicity Testing in the 21st Century. On May 2-3, 2009 the No Kill Advocacy Center and the Animal Law program at George Washington University Law School presented a conference entitled The National No Kill Conference intended for animal lawyers, law students and shelter directors. Click here for more information.
 

Massachusetts School of Law 

On April 11, 2009 the Massachusetts School of Law held its third annual Animal Rights Day.  Animal law issues including animal cruelty were addressed by experts in the field.  

Georgetown University School of Law
 

On March 26, 2009 the Georgetown University School of Law and the Humane Society of the United States presented an animal law conference entitled, "From the Horse’s Mouth: Firsthand Perspectives on Animals, Law, and Policy in the United States." The conference included discussions among key elected officials, law enforcement officers, agency officials, veterinarians, economists, and state and federal judges exploring how professionals outside the field of animal law address legal issues affecting animals in everyday practice. On March 25, 2009 the Tulane University School of Law hosted a panel speaking on animal law issues. The event was held as part of the first "Louisiana Week for the Animals" and issues related to farm and companion animals were addressed.  The event was free and open to the public.

Michigan State University School of Law
 

On March 20, 2009 the Michigan State University School of Law hosted the 2009 Animal Law Symposium.  The topics covered included: Saving a Dog on Death Row, the Coca Cola Case; Pound Seizure and Euthanasia by Gas Chamber; and Hot Topics in Animal Law Today.
 

University of Quebec in Montreal 

On December 31, 2008 the University of Quebec in Montreal and the International Research Group in Animal Law hosted the 1st International Animal Law Conference in Canada titled, The animal, within the sphere of humans' needs.

International Animal Rights Day 

December 10, 2008 was the 11th annual International Animal Rights Day - various events.

New York University School of Law 

On October 29, 2008 the NYU Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, NYU Environmental Law Society, Students for Education on Animal Liberation, and the Pace Law School Student Animal Legal Defense Fund hosted an event entitled, Peter Young: Imprisoned for Activism. Peter Young, the first person convicted of Animal Enterprise Terrorism, presented a speech about animal rights activism.

Quinnipiac University Law School

University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School 

On October 22, 2008 Rick Bogle, founder, Primate Freedom Project and Leslie Hamilton, founding partner, Animal Law Associates of Wisconsin, LLC presented a discussion entitled Animal Rights 401: AR Theory, the Law, and the UW Madison Primate Labs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School.

Lewis and Clark Law School 

On October 17-19, 2008 the Lewis & Clark Law School hosted the 16th annual Animal Law Conference. The conference titled One Earth: Globalism & Animal Law covered topics in animal law ranging from religion to homeland security. http://media-newswire.com/release_1075630.html.

Duquesne University School of Law 

On September 26, 2008 the Duquesne University School of Law hosted an Animal Law night, free and open to the public. Lewis and Clark Law School 

On October 17-19, 2008 the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund and the Center for Animal Law Studies at Lewis & Clark are hosting an animal rights conference entitled One Earth: Globalism & Animal Law. On September 10, 2008 the New York University Law School hosted a talk by David Wolfson entitled "What is Animal Law."  The talk is open to the public and will be at 7:00 p.m.

On June 9, 2008 the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF) at the New York University Law School hosted a lobbying for animals seminar.  The seminar featured basic "lobbying" techniques for citizen activists and provided information regarding some of the bills and issues being considered in the New York Legislature and U.S. Congress this year.

University of Washington Law School
